Open up your doors to us, Kids' Clubs tell schools

The Kids' Clubs Network (KCN) is trying to get schools to open their doors to provide childcare. The charity launched a campaign today (Thursday) at its tenth annual conference in London. According to KCN, one of the biggest barriers to further growth in out-of-school care is a lack of premises.

The charity launched a campaign today (Thursday) at its tenth annual conference in London. According to KCN, one of the biggest barriers to further growth in out-of-school care is a lack of premises.

Chief executive Anne Longfield said, 'We want governing bodies to see the benefits that out-of-school childcare can bring to children and school life, enhancing social skills and educational achievement. Evidence shows that children become more motivated and confident if they have access to out-of-school activities and childcare.

'There is also plenty of anecdotal evidence showing that children are happier and better behaved in school. In short, there is a ripple effect from club to classroom.'
