This book covers a range of conceptual, methodological and procedural issues in conducting ethical research with children. It proposes a framework for researchers to minimise risk and manage, plan and evaluate prospective studies. It also addresses sensitive issues such as child abuse, neglect, SEN and cross-cultural communities.

Many developmental studies conclude that children are too inexperienced and possibly incompetent to consent to participating in studies, so therefore it is unethical to ask them. However, this book argues for the possibility of seeing children as competent participants in research, able to make their own choices.
