Our unique happiness

I had to respond to Helen Penn's column ('To the point', 14 September) where she considers 'what mutual trust between children and adults can do for social behaviour'. Like Helen, I have spent the last four summers on a beach with my children.

Newgale in Pembrokeshire is a blue flag beach. There is little rubbish and there are toilets, a car park and lifeguards. There is only one shop and occasionally an ice cream van - certainly no arcade or donkey in sight!

We usually take snacks or a picnic but we always take a bag for our rubbish. We also take water - dehydration is not good for children, especially when they have just drunk several mouthfuls of sea water!
