Pupils and staff should be involved in the design of schools, a Children in Scotland conference heard last week. Speaking at 'Out of the Box: Designing Spaces for Children and Young People', Bronwen Cohen, Children in Scotland chief executive, said the way space was used in schools was crucial to the learning experiences of young children. 'Consultation and collaboration with pupils, staff, family and community leaders seems key to creating nurturing learning environments. Involving young people throughout the design process allows them to help create and take ownership of the building,' she explained.
