Parents and carers

Parents and carers may have little understanding of the scope and benefits of D&T. You can provide them with regular information on the subject, for example: * relevant parts of the QCA's curriculum guidance for the foundation stage, backed up with photographs of the children's work * children's drawings and comments from the practitioners or the child * a general information sheet on how activities at home will develop skills in D&T * more specific information sheets on elements of D&T.

Once they know what D&T involves, parents may conclude they have missed out on D&T in their own education, so you can:

* organise parent workshops * encourage parents to take part in D&T activities in the nursery * ask them to participate in parallel play to develop their understanding of the kind of questions to ask when involved in D&T with their children.
