In September 1998 Miriam McMillan, the proprieter of Nursery Times, realised her ambition of teaching the nursery's pre-school children French by the immersion method. 'We started the French school to make a point,' she explains. 'Pre-school is the best time to learn a new language.' Miriam has always felt children should learn other languages and had previously provided informal French lessons at the nursery, but she really wanted to teach by immersion, having seen it working so well in Canada.
