Partners with parents

I am amazed at the response from many childcare workers to the letters in Nursery World about parents. Surely we need to be seeking out what is best for the child. While we can all recount situations where there have been elements of neglect, what is more important is that we put the child first. Sometimes that means not projecting our own methods of parenting and trying to empathise with the 101 demands that are placed on parents.

While we can all recount situations where there have been elements of neglect, what is more important is that we put the child first. Sometimes that means not projecting our own methods of parenting and trying to empathise with the 101 demands that are placed on parents.

It is only by developing a real partnership with parents that we are able to develop the trust and friendship that is needed for someone to then take advice to the next level.

Parents are human and make errors. As a working parent myself I know there are times when I get the balance wrong. Some parents choose to work and some are not financially in a position to make the choice.
