Pay for talent

It's a real shame that we need to look abroad for nursery staff when we have some excellent staff here in the UK (News, 10 January). We wouldn't have this problem if the pay wasn't so poor. Working with children aged nought to five, probably one of the most important times in a child's life, takes a lot of skill, knowledge and patience from nursery staff to get it right so that the child will develop into a well-balanced person. Yet I really don't feel that this is appreciated by the Government - you can see it by the pay structure.

Pay the correct wages and the recruitment problem will soon change. You might also find a few male carers joining the profession then.
