Sitting in a bath full of baked beans for 12 hours or shaving off all your hair to stump up money for charity may not seem like much of a laugh, but there are plenty of other ways that involve fun and stimulation. Here are ten top tips to get you started.

1 A sponsored challenge

If you've always wanted to walk the Great Wall of China, trek through a rainforest or have a go at skydiving, what better motivation than to do it in aid of a good cause? Most major charities operate schemes whereby they organise the whole trip and you pay to take part, as well as get sponsors to back you. You must be reasonably fit to tackle one of these challenges, and will probably need to raise funds to pay your travel costs. Remember, too, that if the trip lasts for more than a fortnight you will have to negotiate the time off with your employer.
