* Children at Highdale nursery, Clevedon, will be more conspicuous when they're out on the roads thanks to Avon and Somerset Police Community Trust, who have donated 24 high-visibility waistcoats to the nursery. Lindsay Ford, co-owner of Highdale, said, 'These jackets will help us keep the children safer when walking on one of our many visits to the library, to the fire station and to see the ducks.'

* Nearly 10,000 has been raised for a new toy library at Honeyland Specialist Children's Centre, Exeter, in an art auction. Local artist Alan Cotton asked each of his artist friends to donate a picture that could be sold to raise funds for a toy library at the setting, which caters for children with special educational needs.

* The Vyne Out-of-School club in Basingstoke, Hampshire, has been awarded the AimingHigher4Children quality assurance kite mark. The club provides after-school and holiday care for children aged between five and 14. Club leader Debbie Thane said, 'We are delighted to be the first club in Basingstoke to be awarded the kitemark, as it acknowledges all our efforts and hard work.'
