- The Old Station Nursery was a double winner at the Lincolnshire Echo Business Awards 2007. The Lincoln nursery was named the 'Winning Business' and managing director Sarah Steel won in the 'Outstanding Woman in Business' category. Ms Steel's nursery group, which has just celebrated its fifth anniversary, has nine nurseries. She said, 'These awards reflect the enormous amount of effort our staff team put into providing first-class childcare every day. We will be celebrating as a company and giving ourselves a team pat on the back!'

- Children and staff from Ganneys Meadow Early Years Centre in theWirral celebrated its recent 'outstanding' Ofsted inspection with localMP Stephen Hesford. He visited the nursery for a musical show on thetheme of wildlife and insects, where the children dressed up as spidersand rabbits.

- Highfield Children's Centre in Ipswich, Suffolk, has been ratedoutstanding for its nursery school and daycare provision. The nurseryschool takes 104 children and Early Years@Highfeld has 24 children. Thechildren's centre was praised for the variety of family groups andvisits from health services.

- The Hopes and Dreams Montessori Nursery School, Islington, London, hasbeen presented with a plaque after successfully gaining the Investors inPeople accreditation.

- Children at Little Acorns Day Nursery in Gomersal, West Yorkshire,held a 'beach party' for the children leaving nursery to start school inSeptember. Nursery manager Debbie Hemingway said, 'The children had alarge sandpit to play in. They had water fights and played lots ofgames. The rain held off and a good day was had by everyone.'

- The Sussex-based chain Early Years Childcare has been given a heritageaward for converting a neglected chapel built in 1859 into a nursery.Judges were impressed that the original ornate cornices and stainedglass windows of St Francis Chapel in Southdowns Park, Haywards Heath,had been integrated with a new mezzanine floor and glass walls. Nurserymanager Alice Vine said, 'Staff and children are really enjoying thecharacter of the building and Ofsted also gave us a glowing report.We're very proud of what we've achieved and delighted that the SussexHeritage Trust has recognised us in this way.'
