* An 18-year-old nursery nurse who was born profoundly deaf and partially blind has been named as a regional heat winner in the National Apprenticeship Awards 2006. Donna Trezona works in the Northampton branch of Nunu Nurseries and is shortlisted for Personal Achiever of the Year. * The National Childminding Association has appointed Andrew Fletcher as its new director of policy and public affairs. He was formerly the press and parliamentary manager at the Pre-School Learning Alliance and will now be responsible for promoting NCMA's public agenda. NCMA has appointed two new teams, covering press and public affairs, to work under Mr Fletcher.

* Nicola Reynolds has become the 1,000th person to set up business as a registered childminder in Wales since a drive launched by the National Childminding Association in 2002 as part of the Welsh Assembly Government's childcare strategy. The NCMA gives business support and guidance to prospective childminders across Wales.
