Capturing the moment takes a little forward thinking, but a camera is a great nanny accessory, says Jan Hurst Photographs of children are endlessly interesting and appealing to themselves, their parents and to you.

Photographs of children are endlessly interesting and appealing to themselves, their parents and to you.

Taking pictures of the child you care for can provide a record of events that the parents might otherwise have missed - a baby's first steps, for example, or an after-school party. They enable you to provide a valued link between you, your employer and the child. Photographs you take can also be used as a resource for at-home activities - a session of mounting pictures into an album for the child to keep, and working out captions to go with each shot, can be educational as well as entertaining. Simply sitting down and browsing through photographs with a child who is overtired or bored can be very relaxing.
