Play was top of the agenda

Play was top of the agenda for more than 200 delegates at the 11th conference of the European Network for School-aged Childcare (ENSAC) held at the Institute of Education in London from 22 to 24 June. The theme of the meeting was 'Equal play, a vision for children'. Irene Audain, chief executive of the Scottish Out of School Care Network, gave the opening address, and other speakers included Sure Start minister Catherine Ashton, culture, media and sport secretary Tessa Jowell, children's commissioner for Wales Peter Clark, Sweden's ombudsman for children, Lena Nyberg, and children's commissioner for New Zealand, Roger McClay. ENSAC is an informal network which meets annually to share ideas, policy and practice on play and childcare.
