The appointment of a Children's Commissioner

The appointment of a Children's Commissioner was high on the agenda at the Scottish Out of School Care Network annual conference in Glasgow last week. The Scottish Executive has accepted the case in principle for a Children's Commissioner in Scotland and proposals are being developed by the education, culture and sport committee. Trond Waage, who holds an equivalent post in Norway as the Ombudsman for Children, was one of the speakers, as was minister for education and young people Cathy Jamieson.
