Playgroup plants its talents at Chelsea

Green-fingered children from a Scottish playgroup won the chance to showcase their talents at last month's Chelsea Flower Show.

Abbey Playgroup's entry of rocket planted in the shape of the St Andrew's cross was exhibited in the Morrisons garden at the show.

The playgroup from Arbroath was one of 30 settings chosen by the Morrisons supermarket chain to display their plants as part of its 'Let's Grow to Chelsea Flower Show' competition.

Around 100 schools and early years settings took part, collecting Morrisons 'Let's Grow' vouchers which they exchanged for gardening equipment, seeds and compost.

The entries that most impressed the judges were asked to display their plants in the Morrisons garden at Chelsea.

Playgroup leader Shirley Teviotdale said, 'We were entered into the competition after our 25 children collected more than 4,000 Morrisons vouchers. We received the rocket seeds in March but were worried they wouldn't grow, as we were still getting snow then.'
