The big picture: Preparing for Chelsea

Children at Ashbridge Independent School and Nursery in Preston
have been growing peas in preparation for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show at
the end of May.

All 300 children in the nursery, pre-school and main school have taken part in sowing the Bingo variety of peas. The best crop has been tended to in the school greenhouse by members of the school's three after-school gardening clubs. The plants will form part of the biggest display at the flower show, at Hampton Court Palace on 20-24 May.

The school is set in 11 acres of countryside and its gardening clubs and activities are supported by head gardener Estelle Bryers, who will take two children with her to the show.
