I would like to put a few points straight about the news story, 'Words fail minders at AGM' (27 November). Little did you know the headline was correct, but in another way. A debate held on the Saturday evening showed the true colours of National Childminding Association members attending the AGM in Torquay. At this debate it was very clear that the feeling was that the name 'childminder'

A debate held on the Saturday evening showed the true colours of National Childminding Association members attending the AGM in Torquay. At this debate it was very clear that the feeling was that the name 'childminder'

should not be changed, but that a campaign for promoting registered childminding be run to educate the media, parents and others.

At the AGM on the Sunday, of the approximately 360 voting members present there was an overwhelming majority of 284 against a name change, with only 62 of those attending voting in favour, while nine abstained. The vote was carried by postal votes of 1,435 for, 518 against and 99 abstentions.
