Poster competition to show the dangers of farm life

Children in rural primary schools in England, Scotland and Wales are invited to design posters showing the dangers they may face on a farm, in a competition organised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). It will be judged in two age categories, four- to seven-year-olds and eight- to 11-year-olds. Prizes will include computers for schools, book tokens and personal prizes. Linda Williams, chief inspector of agriculture, said, 'Over the past ten years, 44 children have been killed and many more have been injured on farms in the UK. The aim of the competition is to reinforce the message "Stay safe on the farm".' The HSE said the standard of the posters in last year's competition was so good that the winning entries are to be used in a child safety advertising campaign in the farming press this Easter. For more information contact Victoria Randles, HSE, Room 205, Daniel House, Bootle, Merseyside L20 3TW. All entries must be sent to this address by 10 May.
