Prized environment at nursery

(Photograph) - Photo Paul Reid Budding environmentalists from Friarton Nursery School in Perth were runners-up in the annual Harris Moore Awards, which promote environmental awareness among children, writes Joyce Reid. Staff and pupils created a wildlife garden for birds to feed in, a log pile for insects, a weather station, a sitting area and a play area. Headteacher Catherine Parrot said, 'The children talked about what they wanted and made the plans, and then sold plants raised from seeds to boost the garden fund. We had help with the hard labour from parents, the community and Perth and Strathearn Round Table.' Mrs Parrot said she planned to recycle the 100 prize money to buy a greenhouse and more plants.
