Green-fingered pupils win award

An area of wasteland at a primary school has been transformed into an award-winning garden in just four months. Primary 1 pupils at Oakbank Primary School in Perth did all the planting in the garden's rockery, its 'Scottish border', where the names of the plants are noted on wooden spoons, and the senses garden, which features plants that can stimulate all the senses. The garden also has a conservation area and recycling section and a wildlife area.

Visitors will also be able to pick out small details such as a scarecrow, bamboo chimes, ornamental animals and butterflies, bird tables, sand pit, table and chairs and the weather station.

Teacher Shiona Hodge (pictured) said that the children had brought in many of these finishing touches themselves.
