Feeding the ducks is an activity that many children are familiar with from babyhood and is often an important feature of a walk in the park. Make the most of such a walk, by building on children's fascination with ducks and making links with scientific and mathematical exploration.

To find out about some features of living things (ducks) and their habitats

Preparation

* Ensure the children are dressed appropriately for the weather and terrain.

* Find out if any of the children are likely to be unnerved by proximity to birds and decide on appropriate action.
