While enjoying painting large pieces of cardboard outdoors, a nursery child at St John with St Mark C E Primary School in Bury decided that her contribution looked like a pond. Anne Dawson, higher level teaching assistant, recognised the potential for child-initiated learning and extended the activity to link with the children's mathematical development by encouraging them to transform their efforts into an interactive display entitled 'Five little ducks'.
