Providers guided on new care standards

Do you display photographs of adults as well as of children in your setting, to show that both are welcomed and valued? What measures do you have in place to screen children's access to the internet? And do you log how often you clean play equipment?

Do you display photographs of adults as well as of children in your setting, to show that both are welcomed and valued? What measures do you have in place to screen children's access to the internet? And do you log how often you clean play equipment?

These are just some of the questions asked in a series of guidelines on the national care standards for early education and childcare, launched at last week's Early Years and Primary Teaching Exhibition in Glasgow, which was sponsored by Nursery World. The guidelines will ultimately consist of 14 leaflets, one for each of the standards, and like the care standards themselves, the guidelines apply to all types of early years provision. Six out of the 14 were available at the Exhibition, covering the five standards that the Care Commission has identified as priorities, plus standard 1 (being welcomed and valued). The key standards are 2 (a safe environment), 3 (health and wellbeing), 5 (quality of experience), 12 (confidence in staff) and 14 (well-managed service).
