This book is intended for a wide readership of practitioners and parents.

The authors address important concerns about undue pressure on children.

There are sound points about the risks of making developmentally inappropriate demands, including the headlong rush to get children to read and write ever earlier.

The book is written in an accessible, conversational style and chapters conclude with a summary of the main points. The description of how children 'map' relationships and qualities puts the focus of learning back where it should be, with the connections that children make with their current experience and hands-on exploration. The chapter about wise use of computer technology has my full support.
