Reviewing the social care workforce

A final report reviewing the social care workforce was launched by the care services minister Ian Lewis and children's minister Parmjit Dhanda last week. The Options for Excellence review was jointly carried out by the DfES and the Department of Health, and identifies a vision of the social workforce in 2020. The five priority areas for change are learning organisations, recruitment and retention, new ways of working, improving leadership and management, and commissioning. The Social Care Code of Practice for International Recruitment was also launched, detailing how to effectively employ people from other countries.
