One of the resolutions passed at Early Education's 2001 AGM related to outdoor provision. The resolution states that: 'Young children should have entitlement to high-quality outdoor learning opportunities. Early Education urges UK governments to fund:

* the development of outdoor facilities in all provision for children between the ages of birth and eight

* training on outdoor learning for all managers and practitioners responsible for children.'

The Foundation Stage curriculum guidance states that practitioners are required to '...plan a learning environment, indoors and outdoors, that encourages a positive attitude to learning through rich and stimulating experiences and by ensuring each child feels included.' (p14)

Practitioners are also encouraged to '...make good use of outdoor space so that children are able to learn by working on a larger, more active scale than is possible indoors.' (p15)

Please help by completing and returning this survey as soon as possible.

If you are interested in the area of outdoor provision, Early Education has a publication, The Great Outdoors: developing children's learning through outdoor provision by Margaret Edgington. To order copies of this book (costs 5 plus 50p p&p) phone Early Education on 0207 539 5400.
