Schemes to help single parents into work

New schemes to help single parents into work are being piloted by the Department of Work and Pensions. The Work Search Premium gives 20 a week to lone parent jobseekers who have been on income support for a year. It has been launched in various sites including Bradford, Leicester, London, Edinburgh and Cardiff. Lone parents will also be offered a week's free childcare under the Childcare Tasters initiative. The scheme, introduced in April, has now been expanded to include Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Greenwich, Aberdeenshire, Fife and Torfaen. For information see www.dwp.gov.uk.
