School entry time is when many parents stop reading bedtime stories to their children, according to a report from the National Literacy Trust. The charity found that while 53 per cent of parents read to under-fives, only 37 per cent continued reading when their child reached the age of five. The trust is promoting the practice in Family Reading Fortnight from 8 to 20 January. Resources are available at www.literacytrust.org.uk.
