Scotland furthers child protection

A team of experts who will develop national standards for child protection to be applied across all agencies and encourage better joined-up working has been appointed by the Scottish Executive. The team of secondees from health, social work, police and education services will work with the Executive over the next six months to develop the standards as well as a Children's Charter setting out what children have the right to expect, based on proposals to be produced by Save the Children.

The team will also produce proposals to ensure that all agencies are jointly involved in inspecting the provision of services for vulnerable children. Their work will drive forward the Executive's three-year programme to improve child protection in response to the child protection review team report, It's everyone's job to make sure I'm all right, in November 2002.
