Scottish chain is sold for 17.5m

Just Learning, formerly the sixth largest nursery chain in the UK, has bought Scotland's largest nursery operator, Careshare, for 17.25m in a deal among the largest so far in the private nursery market. The transaction will make Just Learning, which is backed by funds from private equity firm Alchemy, the UK's second largest nursery group. It will operate 56 nurseries providing 4,742 places throughout England, Scotland and Wales, and employ more than 1,200 staff. Asquith Court, the largest provider, has 100 nurseries providing 6,066 places.

The transaction will make Just Learning, which is backed by funds from private equity firm Alchemy, the UK's second largest nursery group. Asquith Court, the largest provider, has 100 nurseries providing 6,066 places.

Michael Fallon, Just Learning's managing director, said, 'The sector is consolidating and our company, with its proven formula, good inspection reports and strong financial backing, expects to grow further.

'Careshare is the premier Scottish operator, and we are delighted to be adding its 20 high-quality nurseries to our portfolio. We will respect Careshare's Scottish ethos. We plan to expand in Scotland, where we have four further sites in the pipeline,' he added.
