The Scottish Childminding Association (SMCA) has received a grant of 82,608 from the New Opportunities Fund for two projects in the Highlands and East Dunbartonshire. The Childcare Plus Project, focusing on the development of new childminders in the Highlands, has been awarded 58,608, while East Dunbartonshire SCMA has been awarded Pounds 24,000 to raise awareness of special needs requirements and offer training to childminders and families to help them care for children with special needs. Jo Sinclair, co-ordinator of the Childcare Plus Project at Highlands SCMA, said, 'This is an exciting project which will provide temporary relief to caregivers and families. Childminders, parents and children all benefit from the project, which will provide a much needed family support service within the community while raising the profile of childminders.'
