How to advertise the Foundation Stage? Now there's a challenge for a copywriter. It would help to get the message across to parents, though, who seem to know little about this crucial early stage of education.

'You could say, "Did you see the advert for the Foundation Stage on TV last night?" when a parent asks you what their child is learning at nursery,' says Pat Wills, chair of Early Education (formerly BAECE). 'And if they haven't seen it you could offer to lend them your video recording.' Barbara Breakwell and Lesley Steele, both members of the Early Education Nottingham branch, put a resolution to the organisation's AGM last November that was unanimously carried. It said: 'Parents and carers are children's first and enduring educators. Early Education recommends that the Government supports early years practitioners in developing an effective partnership with parents by promoting the Foundation Stage in England, through a high-profile, easily accessible and informative media campaign.'
