Skills shortage

I am pleased to see the Select Committee has said nursery nurses provide both care and education to children in daycare. I feel we are the key to stopping standards dropping in education, where there is so much emphasis on teaching and reaching targets but little time spent on the individual. Having more nursery nurses in classes of children up to eight years old would make a huge impact on children's response to education, and would free time for teachers to do their job more effectively. Nursery nurses are under-used and people are unaware of our capabilities. Just think, the skills of observation and assessment, planning, record- keeping - where could these be better utilised than in the current crisis in our schools?
