Space for play is a hard climb

Children scrambled to celebrate the 155m Big Lottery Funding (see above) at Horniman's Adventure Playground in central London. The funding will be invested over the next three years to create and improve local children's play spaces in areas of greatest need. It also aims to boost young people's experiences in their community by increasing participation in sport, dance, play and creative activity.

The announcement comes two months after the play sector feared a drain on funds when the Government decided not to ring-fence the 200m of lottery money earmarked for play in the 2001 Labour Party manifesto.
