Spotlight on ... Gemma Manns, Manager, Third Door Nursery

Careers & Training
Name: Gemma Manns, Manager of Third Door Nursery in Wandsworth since May

How is Third Door different from other day nurseries?

The nursery is based within an office space, so parents are close by to their children. This means that parents who pay to use the office space can come in and play with their children during the day. It is also helpful if a child is taken ill. There's a lot more flexibility than at other nurseries, and having parents in the same building means we are able to build a close relationship.

What does your role at Third Door involve?

As well as my general day-to-day duties as nursery manager, I will be helping with the business side of things. This could include helping to find locations for new settings, if Third Door continues to grow at the rate it has.

You used to work at a nursery in Plymouth. What made you decide to make the move to London?

I decided it was time for something new, and moved up to London with my sister. It has been a big change and I'm finding the city very fast-paced compared to Devon. I started at Noah's Ark Childcare Centre in Plymouth as a nursery assistant after doing my teaching degree and worked my way up to area manager of the chain.
