Position: Deputy manager of Stepping Stones Nursery in Nottingham
- Why did you organise a fancy dress walk for charity?
I wanted to do something to raise money for the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham after they took care of my son, who was born prematurely at 26 weeks. I decided on a walk from Nottingham City Hospital to Queens Medical Centre, a four-mile walk, to represent the journey my son took as he was transported from one hospital to another.
- How long did it take to complete the walk?
It took just under two hours to finish the walk - we stopped at cafes, pubs and shops along the way to collect donations. Friends and family took part in the walk. A friend and I dressed as Jedward, and my son wore a Shrek costume. As part of the event I also organised a party and raffle at the City Hospital's leisure centre afterwards.
- How much money did you raise?
So far we've raised £1,714 - there are still donations coming in and we hope to reach £2,000. We raised more than £500 alone from just the party and raffle. I think the prizes, which were donated by local companies and shops, were the reason why people bought tickets.
