Spotlight on ... Name: Jenny Thompson, Position: Nursery teacher at Beverley School, Middlesbrough

- Why did your nursery class move to a new location?

Beverley School is for children with autism. We moved the nursery toMarton Grove Primary School in September because we needed more space. We now have a shared playtime with their nursery.

- How did you adapt the new setting to your needs?

We had to strip everything off the walls because there was a lot ofstimulus, which can cause the children to get distracted and stressed.Everything's visual, so we use a lot of different communicationsystems.

- How did you create an activity room?

Aker Kvaerner Engineering Services donated 600 to equip a sensoryroom with mats, sensory balls, vibrating cushions, and stepping stones. It helps children be more themselves after travelling to school. It's areally important space and we wouldn't have had it without thedonation.
