Staff need training in jabs

A mother of twins has been accompanying her children to nursery because there are no staff trained to deal with their severe allergies.

Staff at Kid's Corner Pre-school in Sudbury, Derbyshire, need training from their local primary care trust (PCT) in administering adrenaline injections with an Epi-pen. Sheryll Ough has been attending the voluntary nursery since the beginning of term in case she needs to deliver a shot to her twin daughters, who could go into anaphylactic shock because of their allergy to nuts.

The voluntary nursery only secured training from Derbyshire PCT after Ms Ough contacted a radio show and BBC News covered the story.

'I was disgusted there was no system in place,' said Ms Ough. 'The nursery has done everything they're supposed to and until they went on the news nothing happened. It has not even been fast-tracked now.'
