Staff 'lack EYFS training'

Two-thirds of nursery staff have not been trained in the Early Years Foundation Stage, according to childcare staff agency Tinies.

Last month Tinies conducted an e-mail poll completed by 238 UK workers, asking questions relating to salaries, benefits and career progression. The survey found that while respondents agreed that career was very important to them, only 33 per cent said they had been trained in the EYFS.

Pay remained the most crucial factor in choosing a job, according to 37 per cent of those surveyed, and over 80 per cent described nursery jobs as poorly paid. But career progression came a close second, with 35 per cent saying it was the most important factor.

Asked about benefits on top of salary, 57 per cent favoured more holiday time.
