Staffing at nurseries leads to shake-up

Scotland's largest nursery chain, Careshare, has tightened its monitoring of staff:child ratios after the Care Commission upheld nine complaints by parents against six of its nurseries over the past year.

Parents have also made an unsubstantiated allegation of rough handling of children at a Careshare nursery in the Ably Campus business park nursery.

Lothian and Borders family unit interviewed several parents over the allegation but has taken no action because it found no supporting evidence.

However, the Care Commission said the allegations had resulted in additional training for some Careshare staff.

A Commission spokesman said that the staff:child ratios at the Ably Campus business park nursery had at times varied, and added, 'They sometimes met the national care standards and at other times did not.'
