Vibrant pinks and solid blacks, fishes, herons, ants and crows seen in silhouette punctuate the pages of this lively story. It's a cumulative narrative where the pattern is not too predictable, so that each creature's story of what they did when they met the baby has an authentic ring to it.

So, for example, the butterfly says to the frog, 'I sang to the baby! Did you sing to the baby?' The frog replies, 'Yes! I sang to the baby, and the baby sang to me.' Then on the following spread a similar device is used.
