The GMB, T&G and Unison

Unions representing thousands of education support staff lobbied the Houses of Parliament last week to demand an end to term-time-only contracts. The GMB, T&G and Unison want staff to be employed on year-round contracts so they do not have to go without pay during the school holidays (see News, 5 June). T&G national secretary Chris Kaufman said, 'Teachers and lecturers don't suffer this discrimination of term-time-only payment. Nor do MPs and ministers get paid only when they're in Parliament. The Government has got to end this blatant discrimination, which hits women support staff in schools and colleges the hardest.'
