The Professional Association of Teachers has named Philip Parkin as its new general secretary

The Professional Association of Teachers has named Philip Parkin as its new general secretary. A former primary school deputy head, Mr Parkin took up his post on 1 January, replacing Jean Gemmel, who retired in December. Primary schools are invited by Macmillan Cancer Relief to take part in The Big Hush, a ten-minute sponsored silence to raise money for people living with cancer during Cancertalk Week (24 to 28 January). Other activities include children designing a poster or writing a short play to increase their understanding of cancer and help reduce myths surrounding the disease.
