This week's columnist Alan Bentley reflects on how nurseries can bring integrity to their food provision for children While I am usually quite wary about bandwagons, I must applaud the stance taken by a small number of professional cooks over the past 12 to 18 months on the issue of nutritional food for children.

While I am usually quite wary about bandwagons, I must applaud the stance taken by a small number of professional cooks over the past 12 to 18 months on the issue of nutritional food for children.

Seeking to incorporate a radical new food policy into running a major nursery chain, however, is not without special difficulties, although these difficulties can and should be overcome.

The first consideration is not simply 'organic' or 'non-organic', as many foods simply do not justify the extra costs. However, while scientists seem to squabble among themselves about most theories, there does seem to be a common belief that pesticides and other agricultural pollutants account for many negative factors in our lives, including changes in our personalities and our reproductive systems.
