By adding the right resources, practitioners can ensure that children have opportunities to develop their mathematical understanding in a purposeful and enjoyable context. Such learning opportunities will be further enhanced if adults, when appropriate, engage in children's play. By participating in children's role play, practitioners can model and extend appropriate mathematical language, support children's learning and create opportunities for children to extend their thinking and to consolidate their understanding of mathematical concepts.
