Stories from the Wards. BBC Radio 4, 7.45 to 8pm

In this programme, NHS workers talk about the most unforgettable moments during the course of their working lives. They include a medical geneticist who inspired a man born with cerebral palsy to write his life story, and how this transformed his perspective on dealing with patients with a severe disability. A nurse also talks about witnessing the miraculous recovery of a patient injured in a road accident.

The Big Read. BBC 2, 8.55 to 10.25pm

Clive Anderson hosts this programme from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, finally announcing the nation's favourite novel.

Bodyshock - Wild Child. Channel 4, 9 to 10pm

In 2001 reports surfaced of Oxana, a young Ukrainian woman who had been abandoned by her parents and brought up by a pack of dogs from age three to eight. This programme looks at the lives of Oxana and three other 'feral'

children raised by animals or without human interaction. New evidence shows how neglect in their formative years changed the way their brains function.

Case Notes. BBC Radio 4, 9 to 9.30pm

Dr Mark Porter investigates what happens to our eyes and sight as we get older. He finds out how often we should have our eyes checked, how glaucoma - the single biggest cause of preventable blindness - can be detected, and what the eye can reveal about other conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and brain tumours.
