Organise a music session to tie in with your birds project (see overleaf). Warm-up

Warm-up

* Hum long notes.

* Take a few deep breaths.

* Do a word game.

Rhythm work

* Discuss the birds in the garden.

* Now try to create a rhythm game from the birds' names, like this: Blackbird, blackbird, thrush, Robin, robin, crow, Pigeon, pigeon, swallow, jay, Sitting in a row.

* Add instruments, and experiment with the rhythms.

Pitch work

* Check the children can tell the difference between high and low notes by singing high and low sounds and asking them to say which is which.

* Decide which instruments and notes to use for the birds in your rhyme. For example, robin + chime bar = high, crow + xylophone = low.
