Twos special issue - your complete guide

The Government's programme for funded two-year-olds is a huge subject and in order to do it justice we have devoted the whole of our current issue to it.

As the programme increases towards this year's target of 130,000 children, we've produced a guide which answers questions and provides a rich source of inspiration for good practice.

Building relationships with both parent and child will be key to success, and this idea underpins features written by experts including Penny Tassoni (on settling in and building relationships) and Vicky Hutchin (on planning).

We’ve also enlisted the professional expertise of Julia Manning-Morton (on enabling environments), Kay Mathieson (on language and communication) and Sue Chambers (on mealtimes and nutrition).

There have been a lot of figures bandied around since the first two-year-old pilots began in 2006 and in our Q&A we have brought together all the latest facts and figures to highlight the current state of play.  In her ministerial view, education and childcare minister Elizabeth Truss re-iterates her vision for early education and outlines why the two-year-old offer represents an opportunity for all.
