Vetting priority

With regard to the ongoing controversy about the Criminal Records Bureau (News, 5 September), surely it should be considering the vetting of staff who work with children in the early years sector to be a greater priority than school teachers due to the fact that the younger children are less able to communicate, are often with a childcarer on a one-to-one basis and also require attention in more vulnerable situations such as nappy changing. The Government and the CRB seem to have misplaced their priority. Rather than considering the needs of the children who are at the greatest risk, they have succumbed to other pressures. I'd like to know what basis the CRB has used for prioritising its checks, for it certainly wasn't considering the most vulnerable people in our society.
